If you open a terminal and enter the command *lspci *you should see your Wireless card listed in the output of that command.
You could see if you could find reported problems with the card by a google search of ubuntu and the card make and model, eg. ubuntu Atheros AR5001 Or if you wait until the end of this month, there is a update to the Ubuntu distributions with all the latest packages and bug fixes, so you could make another USB live Ubuntu and see if that works any better. -- John Stevenson Lean Agile Consultant / Coach jr0cket.com | leanagilemachine.com
