Because the operation I described requires you to be changing data on partitions that cannot be mounted whilst you do it. I can't see any need to destroy everything I have installed. At no point did I suggest reinstallation or 'destroying' anything. I'm merely describing the process of _moving_ partitions around on the disk, and expanding partitions to allow them to use the newly available space made by deleting an unused partition.
