No standard installion of Windows 7, I simply created the share by 
clicking on the C drive with the right mouse button and selected Share 
with advanced sharing (which pops up a box prompting for a share name 
and permissions of who can access the share).

I haven't done anything specific to Ubuntu either, standard Samba settings.
