When I was buying a laptop from PC World pre-installed with Vista I happened to mention to the sales guy that I didn't care what came with it as I'd be ripping it off and putting Linux on there. The sales guy looked a little startled and told me that this would invalidate the warranty - software, hardware, the lot! After a little chuckling it turned out that he was serious. He checked with his manager and he agreed. Personal Computer World magazine ran an article echoing my experience and said that it probably wouldn't stand up to close scrutiny by the authorities, but not to count on that. So, maybe a CD stand there would need discussion with the store manager about the implications. For what it's worth I got the same machine for the same price at their sister company next door - Currys - who informed me that installing Linux would not invalidate the warranty. - -- Stephen O'Neill w: http://www.thefloatingfrog.co.uk/ e: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.7 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFH6SzVJ+Auntu1v4QRAgbwAKCOC4+AcgE5taeoGeL91LNvAUVDgQCfaKI+ OLohCZ1BDM8pIscAKpcNrxI= =aA0I -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/
