Hello,

recently, Mark Shuttleworth was asked in an interview about the
numbers of users of ubuntu and he estimated this to be about 8 million
[1].

Now, several people are asking for the sources of this number.
Do we have any authentic statistics like
* Number of downloads
* Stats for the repositories
* Shipit stats

?

I think it would be a big advantage to have such stats because we
could use these numbers for marketing (e.g. included in the UWN).

Regards,

Mirjam

Q: What about growth in adoption rates, any kind of numbers that you
can give me?
A: We know now that there are probably at least 8 million [Ubuntu] users.
