It seems the hang may be an issue with gnome-keyring as if I hit Control + C in the console while evolution is sitting there doing nothing it gets the following messages until it finally gives up and then evolution continues per normal. I will continue running to see if the "too many files" errors occurs. It's no longer happening on startup now, but I'll go download a couple hundred more emails and see.
