Cleaned up my menu.lst & /sbin/update-grub (removed ht=on & changed the default naming in update-grub). Rebooted with no "quiet" or "splash"-- normal text-only boot--no problems. tested my /dev/sdc---no badblocks. reedited the menu.lst for "splash" & got a display I have not seen for quite a while (Edgy development)--Vertical alternating bands of red/white & green/black--but no bios warnings ;). I'm including a hard_info report for you to look at--I'm at a loss--It really seems that something has changed with Usplash--I remember talking with Dennis Kaarsemaker about the colour problems during Edgy...Maybe you might want to ask him about what is happening?
