Cleaned up my menu.lst & /sbin/update-grub (removed ht=on & changed the
default naming in update-grub). Rebooted with no "quiet" or "splash"--
normal text-only boot--no problems. tested my /dev/sdc---no badblocks.
reedited the menu.lst for "splash" & got a display I have not seen for
quite a while (Edgy development)--Vertical alternating bands of
red/white & green/black--but no bios warnings ;).  I'm including a
hard_info report for you to look at--I'm at a loss--It really seems that
something has changed with Usplash--I remember talking with Dennis
Kaarsemaker about the colour problems during Edgy...Maybe you might want
to ask him about what is happening?
