I have downloaded/run in a VM the latest Ubuntu 8.04 build candidate, Alpha-5 from 22 Feb., 2008 and the problem remains.
The first few entries appear to be alphabetical, but if you review the first 15 or 20 entries you'll see they are not. I see entries like this: UTC Europe/Andorra Asia/Dubai Asia/Kabul America/Antigua America/Anguilla Europe/Tirane etc... That is not alphabetic (the above list is from a 7.10 install, 8.04 Alpha-5 was nearly identical). Let me be clear, I think there is an actual order to the entries in the drop-down list, it is just that the sequence is meaningless to the unenlightened user. Try this, look for the America/New York, America/Eastern time zone for my location in New Jersey. USA. Now look at the five or ten preceding or succeeding entries in the drop-down list - are they alphabetic? Shouldn't time zones for a given continent be next to each other (assuming the entries are Continent/Landmark)?
