what you aren't understanding is, that vesafb-tng IS NOT compatabale with 64bit systems. so there must be vesafb for 64bit archituctures. so if its deprecated , then 64bit system will never have a vesafb modules unless vesafb-tng becomes compatable with 64bit systems. and thats the reason i know that ubuntu uses vesafb-tng, because there bootupsplash works on their 32bit version but doesnt work on their 64bit version.
