I can add my 2 cents about this bug: I discovered that once this bug happens one of solutions is to leave it as it is and wait until screensaver starts. Then when you resume everything is almost normal - you have login screen and after entering password you have normal desktop. So it looks like kind of timeout which ends and gnome-shell starts. But I mentioned that it almost normal - I mean that after these steps you have normal desktop but actions are very limited, there is no response for mouse clicks etc. So you need to reload gnome-shell with Alt-F2+r and then everything is 100% ok. I hope it may help to diagnose this bug a bit.
