The bug doesn't happen in Wayland, which is why I created it for X11 specifically. I prefer to use Wayland but since I encountered the bug I thought it would be helpful to file it, especially since I saw so many others seemed to have the same problem: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1514757/issue-with-ubuntu-24-04-black- screen-with-cursor-on-login
I didn't reinstall any extensions the day before yesterday. Maybe system-monitor-next was upgraded? The Gnome extensions site is light on details: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/3010/system-monitor- next/ You asked me to completely delete the files for custom extensions instead of disabling them; I didn't realise a disabled extension could break Gnome. But then for Ubuntu extensions I'm only supposed to disable them? You also said something about wallpapers. I can disable my wallpaper if need be. I've been using the same wallpaper since 22.04 so it's odd it would break Gnome now. At any rate I'll do my best to follow your instructions when I'm able but I rely on many of these extensions throughout the day so it's going to be a bit tedious to use my computer without the dock, desktop, etc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2089709 Title: Ubuntu 24.04 (X11) sometimes logs in to a black screen with only an X cursor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2089709/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
