To see if this was a regression in the latest NVIDIA 550.107.02 package update – or just the NVIDIA 550 drivers in general – I checked if the previous version of the NVIDIA 550.67 package also suffers from the same issue.
Unfortunately this package version was removed from the Ubuntu 22.04 repositories, and the Ubuntu 22.04.4 .iso file doesn't ship with it on- image for offline installations. However, the NVIDIA 550.67 package is included inside the .iso file for Zorin OS 17.1 Core r2 (which is based on Ubuntu 22.04). As a result, I performed an offline installation of it on my laptop, so it wouldn't automatically upgrade to the newer NVIDIA 550.107.02 package. After the offline installation of Zorin OS 17.1 Core r2 with the NVIDIA 550.67 driver completed, everything was working correctly and it still defaulted to Xorg. Even when I switched to Wayland manually from the login screen, libadwaita apps (like the built-in gnome-software in Zorin OS) launched correctly and the Settings > About page mentioned the Intel drivers in the "Graphics" field: https://i.imgur.com/XrdmV2p.png However, after upgrading only the NVIDIA 550 driver packages to version 550.107.02 (manually from the Terminal: https://i.imgur.com/PjLkkKi.png) and rebooting, the issue appears. When using Wayland, libadwaita apps fail to launch with the aforementioned errors and the Settings > About page only mentions the NVIDIA drivers in the "Graphics" field: https://i.imgur.com/6f2hR2K.png As a result, I can confirm that this issue only happens after upgrading the NVIDIA 550 package to the latest 550.107.02 version. It didn't occur with the NVIDIA 550.67 driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080282 Title: Wayland is chosen as the default for Nvidia on Jammy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/2080282/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
