I'm seeing this issue, too. (I've encountered it in the course of setting up a "USB Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon install" as described at Pendrivelinux.)
Specifically, this is what I'm using/encountering: 4GB Kingston USB 2.0 Drive After attempting to write new partitions (as described in the Pendrivelinux tutorial) onto my USB drive, I received a warning that the write failed (sorry, I do not have the exact warning output, as I was performing the operation from LiveCD at the time). Here's the interesting thing: After I reboot, fdisk -l lists my USB drive as follows: Disk /dev/sdb: 4126 MB, 4126670848 bytes 16 heads, 32 sectors/track, 15742 cylinders Units = cylinders of 512 * 512 = 262144 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 15742 4029936 b W95 FAT32 However, if I use fdisk to examine the partitions in detail, it lists the following information: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/ubuntu# fdisk /dev/sdb1 Command (m for help): p Disk /dev/sdb1: 4126 MB, 4126654464 bytes 127 heads, 62 sectors/track, 1023 cylinders Units = cylinders of 7874 * 512 = 4031488 bytes Disk identifier: 0x6f20736b Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1p1 * 1 187 736188 6 FAT16 /dev/sdb1p2 188 1023 3291332 83 Linux So, the information listed by fdisk (e.g., System information) seems to be inconsistent. -- fdisk doesn't write partition table https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/58331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
