the best we can do in regard to hardware configuration is to provide a list of laptop models that are affected which i did sense laptop based on the santa rosa platform (which include most of the laptop hardware) sometimes have the bug and sometimes they do not have the bug. as for testing for software configuration i agree someone should test with a fresh install because i do not think the live cd has anything that activates 3d unfortunately (or maybe luckily) i cant test because i am not effected.
