I discovered that the CD had bad files only after I had already installed it
and had been using it for quite a while. A young student of mine had installed
and introduced me to this OS and I knew nothing about it. At some point later,
I discovered that I can actually check to see if the files were ok on the CD.
I think that might have been when I reinstalled it at some point.

I assume that the "Update Manager" has been disabled in some way (by a
Hacker or virus) since I cannot update anything. When I click on
"Install Updates," I get a window asking for a password. When I clear
that window, it goes back to the "Update" window again. It keeps going
back and forth from these two windows.

Thanks for your help.
Sheila
