Dave, not all vendors ship updated microcode in a timely manner. This is rarely the case on consumer motherboards, hopefully the situation is better on servers.
Also, there is a debate here, between the maintainer of the package and the SRU team. If I understand correctly, the package includes both part of the delivery mechanism (which also depends on the kernel version) and the Intel binary blobs. The maintainer wants to keep it that way (less of a burden going forward), but this means it is very hard to backport it to Trusty. The SRU team is interested in backporting only the Intel binary blobs, which would also work for Trusty, but this would fork the way the package is created, and means more work going forward. There is also the matter of doing this properly, not just fixing the issue currently under the spotlight, but also ensuring more timely microcode updates in the long run. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1700373 Title: Please update microcode to version 20170511 on all supported platforms To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/intel-microcode/+bug/1700373/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
