Ubuntu 14.04 LTS gets 5 years of security updates, but not every bugfix will be backported to that release. My understanding of the somewhat high profile issue reported this weekend that triggered this bug and renewed interest in getting these microcode updates to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is that the headline issue is only known to affect oCaml code. It's likely that most Ubuntu users do not have any installed oCaml code. That doesn't mean the update is useless for most Ubuntu users. There are other processor fixes in the updates that may fix or workaround issues that do affect more users. (Intel does not really provide many details of what is changed in these updates.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1700373 Title: Please update microcode to version 20170511 on all supported platforms To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/intel-microcode/+bug/1700373/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
