@Terry, I am not aware of any documentation since normally the installer takes care of it. Also it does rewrite the mbr any and all drives you selected from the menu. As far as the number of people being hit, 89, out of the what? A million people using Ubuntu, is not a whole lot. Another linux distro won't help either. You can certainly use the workaround of manually running grub-install each time if you want, I'm just telling you how it is supposed to work so that you don't *have* to.
