My father-in-law (79) called me, i didn't know what he was talking about, so he

2 months ago i did a fresh install of Lubuntu 13.10, besides winxp, on his PC.
I am not a superuser but now i know that he didn't do a security update, but an
upgrade to 14.04.
He doesn't have a live Cd or stick, or can make one now.
Can i do something with ¨grub rescue¨ by phone ?
Or is this impossible ?
