@Kayvan: great write-up. Thanks. But the problem is broader than intel with on-board CPU. It happens on Intel-nVidia CPU as well, which is my set-up: a Core2Duo with an nVidia 8400M. I does not at all happen on Oneiric 11.10, which I went back to. It starts from 12.04 and continues into 12.10.
It does not necessarily happen with "intensive" use. I had it while just browsing the web - although the web can be "intensive" use as well on some sites, which load up lots of flash ads and things. Both on Firefox and on Chrome / Chromium. I did notice that when scrolling up and down a page, the screens blinks (i.e. goes to black and back up) for some milliseconds. Sometimes the PC passes / recovers from such a blink, sometimes it results in this lock- up. To make sure: it _is_ a complete system lock-up I have: no mouse, no keyboard, no TTY, no log-entries. Hard-reset is the only option. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
