I am using Gnome Shell, but F2 on its own doesn't bring up the run
dialog. I typically use Alt-F2 and the press r to restart gnome shell.
However, this doesn't work when I experience the symptoms described in
this bug report. I have to do Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and restart my entire
gnome session (which, obviously, is a pain).

I am hesitant to upgrade to latest gnome shell, because some people in
this thread said it didn't help and I don't want my system to become
more unstable than it already is.

One other point. I was using Gnome 3 without this freezing issue for
several months in Fedora 16. I had even installed some of the MGSE
extensions on my Fedora system.  I'm only experiencing this issue after
switching over to Linux Mint.
