I have this same problem with an HP DV9000 series laptop, with a 6150
GO.

The suggestion given above of downgrading the driver works, altho, i had to
purge nvidia-current and nvidia-current-update for it to work, and then I
locked the driver version with:

echo "nvidia-current hold" | sudo dpkg --set-selections
