My system just had the same partial freeze -- apps still running but
mouse and keyboard largely ineffective. It happened when I clicked on
Clementine while a song was playing. I was able to get gnome working
again with DISPLAY=":0.0" gnome-shell --replace It had failed with an
error that indicated --replace hadn't been used, so I added it.

30 minutes ago I disabled the mgse-mediaplayer in Advanced Settings and
replaced the menu extension with the extension.js provided above. Is
there anything else I need to do to get those changes to be effective?
Or are they just not working for me? Other than Clementine, I had
firefox, gnome-terminal and eclipse-CDT running, and hadn't used the
menu in a while.

this...):

I'd be happy to supply more context for any of the above syslog entries.
