Year ago I had experienced similar bug on Ubuntu. Also occasional shell
crashes without clear reason. Those crashes happened more frequently
than now. From those times I have changed video card and several times
changed distros. But I remember that those crashes were somehow linked
to power management in video system. I was able to struggle them by
setting PowerMizer settings to Maximum Performance in Nvidia X Server
settings. I will try to do the same now. But now it will take more time
for me to approve is it linked to power management or not. I see current
bug quite seldom. So If you have Nvidia card, please, try running your
system for a while with PowerMizer Performance Level changed from
deafault "Adaptive" to "Prefer Maximum Performance". Should bug happens
again, please, report here about this. Then it will be clear that this
bug not linked to power management in video system.
