Thanks for your help.

I'm a long time Linux user and know my way around the command line very
well.  BTW¸ aptitude is no longer installed by default (as of 10.10 I
think) but I like it and have it installed.

I'm willing to purge, wipe data, and reinstall anything related to
gwibber, but this is a work machine so I won't do a system-level purge.

I'm attaching the results of my purge and reinstall of gwibber, but
there are no surprises there and obviously it didn't work.  What's the
next step?
