Having switched my desktop defaults to the Ubuntu font I actually can't make the missing glyphs break anything. If I download the notinubuntubeta.txt file and look at it in gedit or anything else and set the font to ubuntu beta all the glyphs seem to display (presumably from sans) in fact the only way I can tell the glyphs are missing is to open the ubuntu font in fontforge. I don't know what magic is doing it, but it all seems to work for me.
