So, I would like to explain again what I did.

Downloaded the source package of 2.6.32-rc5 from ppa. Patched the
rs400.c file (with emacs, not the patch command). Used my old config
file to buikd the kernel using make-kpkg command and with the kernel
debug off option.

Tormod, when you say "needs KMS", what do you mean? The patch or more
than that, like some extra options to be checked  with the menuconfig
process?

I noticed, that versions as of 1.6.28* lacked some of the files related to 
radeon completely, like rs400.c. Is this what you call KMS?
