Mary, First, I'm a single individual. While I consider myself a part of the Ubuntu community, what I say is my personal view of things and I don't represent an official standpoint of any kind.
It might be that openSUSE has more manpower devoted to fixing sound problems that Ubuntu has. I don't really know how or where to put pressure on Canonical or the Ubuntu community, to make it/them/us prioritize audio higher. As for the bug's status, I set it to "new" as there are no other reports with that particular HDA codec in this thread.
