I am having the same problem since I upgraded to Jaunty. I can hold a conversation for a little while, then the sound goes quiet, the CPU on one core hits 100%, they can hear me but I can't hear them. If I kill skype or use the Pulse volume control to kill Skype.real Skype works again. I have tried lots of changes and recommendations. http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=306381&st=0 has numerous reports of this bug and suggestions none of which work, infact I think medibuntu and ubuntu launchpad and forums have numerous related bugs. I am happy to perform any debugging process if you tell me how.
Skype is pretty much unusable at the moment and I depend on it for work. If it isn't fixed soon my colleagues will force me to migrate back to Windows :( so I am desperate that it is resolved soon!
