Just thought I'd confirm I see the same symptoms too. My player is a Sony NWZ-A829 and I'm running Jaunty on a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop. Exactly the same symptoms as previously described - player automounts but no access to files - Nautilus reports same error as reported at start of this bug
Tried killing the gvfs-photo2-volume-monitor - doesnt seem to change anything. Installed usbmount as recommended but nothing seemed to change then later while using laptop for something else noticed that palyer was appearing as a storage device in Nautilus and I could then access all files etc. Managed to move all MP3s etc onto player.
