Ante, do you have the full dpkg log from this upgrade? From what I see in /usr/sbin/update-initramfs, only initramfs updates (-u) are deferred as a trigger; initramfs creation (-c) is still processed immediately. So the initramfs should still have been created at the right point in time, but perhaps I'm overlooking something.
