Thanks Andy! You saved my day. Blacklisting uhci-hcd seems to solve the issue 
for me.
At least I can confirm, that all usb sticks and card readers which refused to 
get detected before are working now, even when adding a bunch of 5 of them via 
usb hub. Great!

Folks, consider try blacklisting uhci-hcd and report back. It *might* be
the help :)
