KDD'17 IDEA Workshop - Call for Vis/HCI/ML/DM/DB Papers

*** Note: this year we also welcome appraisal/lessons learned reports ***

IDEA -- Interactive Data Exploration and Analysis -- is a full-day workshop
organized in conjunction with the ACM SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge, Discovery
and Data Mining in Halifax, Canada, on 14 August 2017. Since 2013, the annual
IDEA workshop has grown to become one of the largest KDD workshops, with over
two hundred researchers in attendance last year. Join us this year in Halifax!

Paper submission deadline: Fri, Jun 2, 2017, 23:59 Hawaii Time

We had four great IDEAs (pun intended), at KDD'13 (Chicago), KDD'14 (NYC),
KDD'15 (Sydney), and KDD'16 (San Francisco) with fantastic keynotes by
Marti Hearst (UC Berkeley), Haesun Park (Georgia Tech), Ben Shneiderman (UMD),
Aditya Parameswaran (UIUC), Geoff Webb (Monash University),
Jure Leskovec (Stanford University), Jerome H. Friedman (Stanford),
Jeffrey Heer (U Washington, Trifacta), Eamonn Keogh (UC Riverside), and
Saleema Amershi (Microsoft Research).

See http://poloclub.gatech.edu/idea2017/ with links to previous editions.

* Workshop Goals

We aim to address the development of data mining techniques that allow users to
interactively explore their data, receiving near-instant updates to every
requested refinement. Our focus and emphasis is on interactivity and effective
integration of techniques from data mining, visualization and human-computer
interaction. In other words, we explore how the best of these different, related
domains can be combined such that the sum is greater than the parts.

* Topics of Interest include, but are not limited to

- Interactive data mining algorithms
- Visualizations for interactive data mining
- Demonstrations of interactive data mining
- Quick, high-level data analysis methods
- Any-time data mining algorithms
- Visual analytics
- Methods that allow meaningful intermediate results
- Data surrogates
- On-line algorithms
- Adaptive stream mining algorithms
- Theoretical/complexity analysis of instant data mining
- Learning from user input for action replication/prediction
- Active learning / mining

* Submission Information

We welcome both novel research papers, demo papers, work-in-progress papers,
visionary papers, appraisal papers of existing methods and tools, and relevant
work that has been previously published, or will be presented at the main
conference. All papers will be peer reviewed.

Submissions should be in PDF, written in English, with a maximum of 10 pages.
Shorter papers are welcome.

The accepted papers will be posted on the workshop website and will not appear
in the KDD proceedings.

Format your paper using the standard double-column ACM Proceedings Style
 http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates

Submit at EasyChair:
        http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=idea17

At least one author of an accepted paper must attend the workshop to present
the work.
