A full-day tutorial on the CLARION cognitive architecture will take place on July 23rd, 2008, at the 30th Annual Conference of the Cognitive Science Society in Washington DC (http://ccc.utexas.edu/ cogsci08/index.html). For participants attending the CogSci2008 conference, the tutorial is free.
This full-day tutorial introduces participants to CLARION, a dual- process/dual-representation cognitive architecture that focuses on the distinction between explicit and implicit cognitive processes, as well as their synergistic interactions. CLARION is also integrative, involving cognition (reasoning, learning, skill acquisition, etc.), motivation, metacognition, and so on.
This presentation will provide a detailed, introductory description, along with many simulations, advanced topics, and formal results. Although some prior exposure to cognitive architectures and artificial neural networks can be helpful, prior understanding of these areas is not required, as the full-day format allows a detailed presentation of basic, as well as advanced, topics related to cognitive modeling using the CLARION cognitive architecture. This tutorial will enable participants to apply the basic concepts, theories, and computational models of CLARION to their own work.
