Postdoctoral Position in Cancer Informatics and Machine Learning
University of Bristol, United Kingdom (vacancy ref. 13888)
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding postdoctoral researcher,
interested in machine learning and bioinformatics to work with
Dr. Colin Campbell, University of Bristol, United Kingdom.
Based in the Department of Engineering Mathematics, you will
have a background in machine learning, statistics or bioinformatics.
The project is principally focused on cancer informatics, funded by
Cancer Research UK and the project objective is to use advanced methods
from machine learning and statistics to interpret the large and
multi-faceted datasets currently being generated within cancer research.
An important objective of the research program is to identify targets of
therapeutic interest. Though cancer research is the core application
domain,
we will also develop new algorithmic methods and techniques which may
improve the modelling and interpretation of these datasets. The approaches
used will involve kernel-based methods, probabilistic graphical models,
Bayesian inference and a range of other machine learning and statistical
techniques, in addition to methods from bioinformatics.
The closing date for applications is: *** 9.00 am 12 May 2008 ***
Timescale of Appointment: fixed term contract for 3 years.
If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a
permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant
research experience. Further information can be found at
