My impression is that Colbert aims (slightly) higher intellectually than
his broadcast competitors, which may have sent some of his audience
elsewhere for Kardashian jokes. The Late Show also started with a nice
spurt of A-list guests. As that settles into more typical bookings, ratings
will decline accordingly.

I agree that the first minute is a complete waste. Watching live, I'll see
who's on Kimmel instead, knowing that I'm not missing anything on CBS.

We've now seen it dozens of times, and will get to see it hundreds more.
It's become more dead time in the opening few minutes. Tell us who's going
to be on the show as Stephen makes his way to the desk, and let's go.

I'll add that I like the longer chunks on a single topic that Colbert does
at the desk.
