The status bar at the bottom disappeared; I don't think that its existence provides much of an added value. The connection state indicator got moved to the main toolbar, and the menubar is now hidden. Some of the patches are at [1].
I'm fine with the part that these patches change. I'm running with them now and it works great. However, I'm not a fan of moving the toolbar to the left by default, but given that it is trivial to move it to the top again I'm not really against this idea.
What shall we do with the menu bar? One option is to go the Firefox route and automatically display it when user presses Alt, hiding the menu bar otherwise.
Hiding the menubar by default is not a good idea in my opinion. It is non-standard, as you mention in your email, so it could be the case that new users have trouble finding it.
Another option is hiding this menu behind a toolbar icon.
This sounds better to me, but to me it would be even better to not hide the menubar (at least not by default). What we could do is provide such a toolbar icon, but show the menubar by default. Best regards, Caspar Schutijser
