More on Live session:
4) Volume icon starts muted; I went to preferences and noticed Left Mouse
Button Action set to 'Mute Volume' so I changed it to 'Show Slider'.
5) 'Open Mixer' from the drop down menu has no effect as it appears 'alsamixer'
is not present.

Latest zsync observations:
1) Live session: Shutdown using the Shutdown desktop icon works okay.
2) Live session: Menu: Apps -> Shutdown Computer, has no effect.
3) Live session: nm-applet is as expected/functional and wired connection
working.

please zsync again and test the newest version.
shutdown *should* work
nm-applet should work.
Is this a VM?
That may be why you are not seeing the plymouth boot splash.
certain computers have issues showing plymouth screens as well...
