The patch itself is neutral and has good uses and bad uses beyond its
stated intent as a regulatory compliance patch for US financial
institutions.  I think calling it "tap" was probably a regrettable
naming choice, but it changes nothing.

But I think more importantly here, it is perhaps being overlooked that
qmail already has the means to copy and store every message passing
through with the most trivial of changes to the source code.

The patch being proposed for the toaster is at least a bit more
selective about what it keeps a copy of, allowing its use as something
other than a large-scale spying tool. ;)

Whether it's appropriate for the toaster or not, is another question
altogether.
