Hello volks, I'm usind qmail 1.0.5 on a linux box that acts as an SMTP relay for an local network. In last two weeks twice a problem have occured, that qmail finished its work. qmailcontrol status shows, that qmail-send process always dies and is trying to start again. the readproctitle shows the error message:
readproctitle service errors: ...: temporary failure?supervise: fatal: unable to acquire log/supe rvise/lock: temporary failure?supervise: fatal: unable to acquire log/supervise/lock: temporary failure?supervise: fatal: un able to acquire qmail-send/supervise/lock: temporary failure?supervise: fatal: unable to acquire log/supervise/lock: tempora ry failure?supervise: fatal: unable to acquire log/supervise/lock: temporary failure? qmailcontrol stop finishes all qmail related processes but one qmail-send process. Killing this process manually starts that process again because of the line in /etc/inittab . After rebooting the computer the problem is stil there. The only help is to delete the line SV:2345:respawn:/command/svscanboot in the inittab, kill the init process (-HUP), and to kill manually all svscan and qmail- processes and to restart after that al the qmail staff. The problem seems to occur during or after network failures of the Gateway to the Internet, when the mail gate can't reach smtp relays in the Internet for longer time. Is there a bug in the svscan stuf, that doesnt correctly reinitialize processes after timeouts or so ? Regards, Eduard Siemens >
