I recently bought myself an MD for the specific
purpose of recordingshows (and small children named

groan. But some of us can't affordexpensive rigs, not
to mention violins to play you sad songs about the
woesof MD recordings. Which brings me to my
question. I'd like to get some mics, for
thosenot-as-rare-as-they-should-be occassions when
there's nobody to patch outof. The thing is, I know
squat about microphones. So maybe somebody inSlip
land could offer some advice as to types, features,
makes, or models. Keep in mind that if I had the money
for serious gear, I wouldn't be runninga minidisc, so
don't tell me how hot your new matched Earthworks
sr78's are. Well, you can tell me how hot they are,
but don't be surprised when I don'trush out and buy
them. They're in what I consider a good price range
fora car. I'm looking for decent inexpensive
microphones. And actually, theremight even be someone
here who's got some old one's they want to unload.Or
maybe you can just tell me about your collest
microphone expereicne, orwhat you've liked and
disliked about mics you've had, anything, I'm in
atotal vacuum here. The numbers don't mean much, and
the descriptions frommanufacturers are like wine
labels. What the hell is 'subtle oak complexity'?
So if you've got something to say about microphones,
out with it. By the way, did anyone get a setlist
from Brad's solo gig last week?
