I recently bought myself an MD for the specific purpose of recording shows (and small children named Eleanor).

All you DAT heads can go ahead and groan.  But some of us can't afford expensive rigs, not to mention violins to play you sad songs about the woes of MD recordings.

Which brings me to my question.  I'd like to get some mics, for those not-as-rare-as-they-should-be occassions when there's nobody to patch out of.  The thing is, I know squat about microphones.  So maybe somebody in Slip land could offer some advice as to types, features, makes, or models.  Keep in mind that if I had the money for serious gear, I wouldn't be running a minidisc, so don't tell me how hot your new matched Earthworks sr78's are.  Well, you can tell me how hot they are, but don't be surprised when I don't rush out and buy them.  They're in what I consider a good price range for a car.

I'm looking for decent inexpensive microphones.  And actually, there might even be someone here who's got some old one's they want to unload. Or maybe you can just tell me about your collest microphone expereicne, or what you've liked and disliked about mics you've had, anything, I'm in a total vacuum here.  The numbers don't mean much, and the descriptions from manufacturers are like wine labels.  What the hell is 'subtle oak complexity'?

So if you've got something to say about microphones, out with it.

By the way, did anyone get a setlist from Brad's solo gig last week?
