I've seen the same problem before.  I think, but can't prove, it's
related to mine checking for mail periodically while I'm offline, gets
stuck, and goes into la-la-land.  Or the way I'm the DNS for our home
network.  Anyway, you can kill it with 'kill -9 [pid]'
