The Transcend wifi cards are also hackable, I've got a couple of 32G ones in my
pocket that I have the hacked image on so I can just SSH into the card (they run
Linux)

Yes, my first thought was get an Eye-Fi card that does Direct Mode. I think
all the latest ones are capable of creating of this....but, there was time
before it was just 'mobi' or 'Pro X2' (and all class 10)...
They did 'Connect X2', 'Mobile X2', 'Explore X2', 'Pro X2'.....class 6.
(different levels had different available sizes, Connect was 4GB,
Mobile/Explore were 8GB, and Pro was 8 or 16 GB.) Direct Mode originally
wasn't available in all of them, but later was....forget if there was anything
different left between Connect and Mobile other than size.
Explore added Geotagging and Hotspot support, though seemed to me these were
extras that you paid annually for.... Pro did these as well, but allowed
transfers of RAW images.
There are also older pre-X2 cards.... Eye-Fi Home, Eye-Fi Share, Eye-Fi Share
Video, Eye-Fi Explore Video
Somewhere there are 5 Eye-Fi cards....a 2GB Eye-Fi Share, a 4GB Eye-Fi Share
Video, an 8GB Mobile X2, and then 2 8GB Pro X2's.....got the Mobile X2 and one
of the Pro X2's as refurbs. (and some how I've come to have more working
cameras than Eye-Fi cards...)
Here's info on Direct Mode to iOS:

Or Android:
https://x2help.eyefi.com/hc/en-us/articles/200183713
Or a computer:

As I recall, I tried it once, but didn't get it to work....ended up just using
tethering on my phone (first trip I did this, I got a text from my provider
that I had used 80% of data ... and I was only a few days into the billing
cycle.... though more likely reason was chrome decided to update itself.... a
later trip, I tried to make use of hotel wifi as much as possible, though
ended up using tethering...
Direct might work with my newer Android tablet... wonder if I'll get around to
trying....
Also, not sure what the range of wifi-direct would be....

I want to thank everyone for the quick responses. I have a lot of options. I
just have to look at my current equipment and then test out the options..
As always the lists come through.

An EyeFi SD card will allow any camera to save files across WiFi as
