You must be doing something wrong or using a bad tool. I recommend TrueImage. I have been deploying it at work for about 7 years, on hundreds of computers, all laptops, probably about 2 dozen different makes/models. There are only two problem I ever face: The UI is kinda weird. Sometimes you get confused about what you're supposed to click on. And sometimes you boot from the rescue CD only to discover the rescue CD doesn't have a driver for the hard drive or network. In which case, I email support, and they provide me with a link to an alternate rescue CD. So far, that's never failed. I am thankful that my days of messing around with crappy partition tools are over.
