To get your version of Talks, press the Talks key followed by a long press
of soft key 1. Once in the Talks programme, then press soft key or option
key as it is also called. Then arrow up, yes I said up, until you hear
About and then select. You will then get the version of Talks you are
currently running.

cursor horizontally and then I am able to use the down arrow to move to

What version of Talks are you using?
Did you try using your Left and Right arrows in place of using the Up/Down
arrows? Sounds like your screen may have gotten turned 90 degrees. In that
case, the Up/Down will not work. This is easy to do with a slider phone.
Again closing and opening the phone should fix this. Nothing else, turning
off and on the phone will also fix it.
Changing the cursor type isn't going to change how Talks works when
entering items into the contacts. Other settings comes down to how you
want your phone to work. There isn't an correct and incorrect way. Just
the way you want to use the phone and have things spoken when typing
things. IE Spelling, Echo Characters, Words, both and or None. Comes down
to what you want.
Initially it sounds like the dictionary is working correctly based on your
initial message. Remember when using T9(dictionary), you only need to
press each number once. So if you wanted to enter Mike, you would press on
a numeric keypad phone 6 4 5 3 and it may say Mike. If it says something
different like Mile, then you would press the Star to cycle through all
the enters of words that can be made up with those 4 key presses.

Hi Don, I don't have my Talks phone to hand but I can think of a few
things you need to check. Now when I am writing on my Talks phone, I
like to set key echo and it can be set as follows, key echo none, key
echo words and key echo characters and words. This is done by pressing
the talks key followed by the number one on your key pad and cycling
through those options. Now another thing is the spelling alphabet and I
think you need to change that.
Again without the phone, I recommend you press Talks followed by the
number
3 on your keypad and go through the various settings by pressing again
Talks and the number 3. Finally it also depends on how your cursor is
set, ensure it is not set to origional as this is not the setting when
inputting text.
Checking cursor settings press Talks followed by the number 2 and again
go through those settings Talks and number 2, I think I recall that
there are about 3 different settings. Not sure if you have predictive
text set but I don't recommend it for a beginner. Try out the above
suggestions first and if they don't work then press the hash or pound key
twice quickly in succession and see if that helps.

I have entered several new contacts many times, but now I am having a
problem:
I opened my contacts list. Then, I pressed SoftKey 1 and cursored
down to new contact and pressed Select. Then Talks said, "First name
text, dictionary upper case." Then, I typed the first letter of Mike
and it said, "Caps M." Then, I typed the letter I and it said, "Caps
Mike." Then, I typed the letter k and it said, "Caps Mike" again.
Then, I typed the letter e and it said, "Caps Mike" again. After all
of that, I couldn't cursor down to the field for the last name.
I must have pressed something by mistake that has changed my settings
to get all of this happening.
Can anyone help???
