Some times what happends when you slide close the phone is you slide it close to far and the screen turns 90 degrese. At that point, the Up/Down will do nothing and the Left/Right perform the function of the Up/Down being the screen is rotated. So by sliding open the phone to uncover the dialing keypad causes the screen to turn back up right. So that the Up/Down are Up/Down and the Left/Right are Left/Right.
