Paul Another thing you could try is to slide open your phone to uncover the
dialing keypad and then see if the up/down arrows work. Some times what
happends when you slide close the phone is you slide it close to far and the
screen turns 90 degrese. At that point, the Up/Down will do nothing and the
Left/Right perform the function of the Up/Down being the screen is rotated.
So by sliding open the phone to uncover the dialing keypad causes the screen
to turn back up right. So that the Up/Down are Up/Down and the Left/Right
are Left/Right.

Have you tried rebooting the phone? Also try pressing the menu key then
soft
key 2 to back out of that to the standby screen and see if that helps.
