Go into your contacts, mark all of them. Now press select and this will
bring up a small menu. Select Copy business card and then other and then
to
memory card. It may ask to replace existing ones. Answer YES. When it is
done, it will store them in F:\Others\Contacts as VCF files one for each
contact. As a example: I ahve 459 contacts. So in this directory/Folder I
will have 459 files.

What method would you suggest I use to back up the contacts to the
memory card and not lose any of the information stored along with each
contact?
I used a combination of Windows Explorer and YBrowser, to move all the
other personal folders, containing personal data, to the memory card.
So, backing up or, moving the contacts from their current location to
the memory card is the last thing I need to do, before either
reinstalling the firmware or reformatting the N86.
Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Dave being you are having issue now! It is really to late to do a
backup format and then a restore. More then likely doing the backup
is just going to backup the problem as well.
You can save some of your phones data like by copying all the
contacts to the memory card.
You could try doing a full backup on the phone to the memory card on
the
N86 and I think it stores different things as ARC files in the backup
directory on the memory card. I think each type of item is stored as
its own ARC file. So you can go and delete the ARC file you don't want.
If you format the phone, Yes the latest firmware is retained. That is
why it is called firmware. It is the operating system that the phone
uses to startup with. However after formatting the phone, you will
need to re-install Talks, it license, and other 3rd party software.
Note! to get to the ARC files in the backup directory! You will need
to use YBrowser on the phone or use a memory card reader to look at
the files on your memory card using the computer.
The format code is the same for ALL NOKIA PHONES and hasn't changed.
So this has remained the same for over 10 years 1 decaid. Yes I said
all Nokia Symbian phones. This means 1st Edition, 2nd Edition, 3rd
Edition, 5th Edition, Anna, and even Belle. Yes this covers the N86
being it is a 3rd Edition phone.
However in saying the above! I've found at least one case where a
format will not fix a memory issue. This has to do where some data is
stored in the phone by 3rd party software. I'm letting people know
this being I've found the only way to fix that issue if you happen to
have it is using the Nokia software updater and re-install the
firmware. I will also state this isn't a normal thing to have happen.
No I do not know what the 3rd party software was that cause this
being it was a gradual thing to have happen. The phone started to
have issues after 3 to 5 months and when the memory was checked it
only had a few meg free. A *#7780# or a *#7370# wouldn't fix the issue.
Using YBrowser I couldn't find the directory that was causing the
memory issue on drive C: of the phone. So it was in a protected
directory. I'm guessing the C:\Private, C:\Resource, C:\Sys and or
C:\System. Some of those you can not get to all levels do to Nokia
security. So I re-installed the firmware that fixed the memory issue.

Hello Everyone:
I have the KNFB Reader installed on my Nokia N86 phone.
Wehn I run the program and attempt to take a picture of a page of
text to be converted and read to me, the reader will say "taking
picture".
However, the sound file for the camera does not get played and
neither does the camera take a picture of the page of text.
However, the camera does work in taking pictures of objects, people,
etc.
I spoke to someone at tech support for the KNFB reader, who
suggested that the software which links the reader to the camera,
had possibly become corrupted. He suggested removing the reader and
reinstalling it.
This did not resolve the problem. he suggested backing up my
personal data and reformatting the phone, restoring the phone to
factory defaults.
If I use PCSweet to perform the backup, reformatted the phone, then
used PCSweet to perform the restore, what settings, if any will be
restored to the phone? Of course, what I am afraid of, is that the
restore might put back the settings for the camera and recreate the
problem I am trying to fix.
So, What would be the best method, other than PCSweet, to use to
copy or move my personal data from their current locations, to the
removable SD card?
Having done that, what is the key combination I need to use, to
reformat the N86 back to the out-of-the-box factory defaults.
Once I have reformatted the phone, will I need to download and
install the updates to the firmware, to the latest version or, does
the phone retain the current version of the firmware software, even
if the phone is reset to factory defaults?
Any and all information on these two questions will be very much
appreciated.
