Eleanor, if the battery has been totally drained and by this I mean no charge at all then when you plug in the charger it will not beep or indicate right away that it is charging. Leave it on the charger for a bit and it should eventually beep. I have a new e7 and I appear to have a problem with it' once the battery ran flat, I appear to be unable to recharge it' the power is certainly going through but when I plug in the power either via the mains or via my PC that charging noise does not come on nor does the phone light up initially. I try turning the phone on but to no avail. It may well be that the phone is faulty but I am surprised at a bran new phone being faulty. Just wondered if there might be some sort of boust button where a pin or something may be used to try and turn on the phone. Unfortunately it is one of these phones where the battery does not come out.
